Yardage from weight assumes even winding: remaining = (grams left ÷ ball grams) × ball length. The verdict wants a ≥10% margin — seams, swatches, and one frogged section eat yarn. Gauge math is proportional: your count = pattern count × (your gauge ÷ pattern gauge), then rounded to your stitch repeat if you set one. Same rule works for rows. Shaping distributes changes as evenly as the stitch count allows — leftover stitches land in the larger groups, and the instruction reads the way a pattern would write it.
