Safety margin %

Density = length ÷ grams. A substitute within ±10% is a safe swap, ±10–20% means swatch before committing, beyond that you're knitting a different fabric. Skeins to buy = ceil(pattern total × (1 + margin) ÷ substitute skein length). Density matches thickness, not fiber behavior — drape, halo, and stitch definition still differ between wool, cotton, and acrylic at the same weight. Saved yarns are read from the Skein & Gauge stash (localStorage); this tool only reads it, never changes it.
